CSN Education Department Students:
Your Education Portfolio will contain artifacts from your EDU/ECE courses. In your previous courses, you probably created pages for your portfolio specific to that course. Now these pages and artifacts are going to change somewhat. The page names will change as will some of the artifacts to be included on those pages:
Narratives:
Your narratives for these pages will address the following:
1) the program competency for that page
2) the artifacts you did for that competency
3) what you learned by doing the artifacts
4) how what you learned will help you in your future teaching
For the course competencies, see the first column (in purple) in the Education Portfolio Self-Assessment Matrix, below.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. But the artifacts I lost were for live classes where we turned in everything on paper. What can I do?
A. If you do not have all of your artifacts from a previous course and cannot retrieve them from Canvas, include the artifacts you do have and make sure to very thoroughly address all four points in the course competency narrative. (See Course Pages and Artifacts for the four points.)
Q. Do we have to submit our artifacts from previous courses to the Writing Center or Smart Thinking for review before we add them to our portfolio?
A. No. Artifacts created in previous courses are not to be submitted to the Writing Center or Smart Thinking for review.
Q. We already made our pages in our previous Education courses, so why do we have to change our pages for this course?
A. When you made your pages in your previous courses, you were just learning how to do Weebly and you were taught the simplest way to create a portfolio. Now that you are further along in the program, you need to organize your portfolio according to your degree program so it looks professional and polished. Your degree program reflects what is on your degree sheet, the most important of which is the degree competencies. The degree competencies are also reflected on your Portfolio Self-Assessment Matrix. This is why your portfolio is organized according to your degree competencies.
Q. Why do I have to make a Weebly portfolio anyway? When am I ever going to use it?
A. Your Weebly portfolio is a representation of the most important things you have learned in your education, as well as a representation of who you are and who you will be as a teacher. For this reason, you will want to share your portfolio URL on your resume. That way future employers can see your skills and abilities in a professional and polished format that adds to the information on your resume!

- Reflection/Self-Assessment page - For this page you will briefly address what you have learned about yourself and your education by completing your education program and portfolio and how this will benefit you in your future teaching. You can also include one of your favorite quotations, your goals and dreams for your career, and anything else you want your future employer to remember about you. You can do this in paragraph or bullet point form. You will then add your completed Self-Assessment Matrix.
